How to Protect Buyers from Liers when overseas purchasing stainless steel products?
I have been in the stainless steel industry for more than 10 years. I have personally experienced being scammed. At least 60% of the customers around me have also been scammed. Especially in the stainless steel industry, it is very sensitive and dangerous. Have you ever been deceived when purchasing stainless steel products overseas? Let us share our experiences together and talk about how to prevent being deceived.
In 2013, I helped a Vietnamese customer to purchase products of Simens, Hydic, Rosement, ABB, GE and other brands. I didn’t quite understand that these brands need to be purchased on the official website. I thought that just like ordinary products, I just need to choose the cheapest and best service supplier. Who knows that these orders have all been cheated, and every supplier only accepts deposits and does not ship them. Fortunately, the client understood that I did not blame me for being unprofessional because of my being cheated. Still give me the remaining orders. But I was still embarrassed to advance the cheated money to the client. For the goods of these brands, I will never buy from other channels except the official website. I hope you will be cautious when you come into contact with branded goods in the future. Don’t try it lightly if you don’t understand the industry, try to communicate channel problems with customers as much as possible.

Let’s talk about my experience of being deceived by customers around me for more than 10 years. In 2013, one of my Turkish customers was deceived by a supplier at a low price. He purchased stainless steel color steel 304 grade. The supplier gave All his quotes are 201 prices. Of course, the customer himself was at fault. He did not believe in the prices of the raw materials in the market, so he purchased them directly at the lowest price, and paid a deposit of US$100,000, and did not come to inspect the goods before finally shipping. When he received the goods, he found out that it was 201. He was very angry and demanded compensation. But as we all know, it is so difficult to fight a lawsuit across the border. People’s experience and financial resources are limited. Although I accompanied him to find lawyers and suppliers to communicate, the end result is undoubtedly a waste of time and energy, without gain. Therefore, my suggestion is that in the future, when customers purchase stainless steel, they must look for reliable prices, reliable suppliers, and don’t just look at prices. Try to arrange video inspection and play PMI test video before delivery. The final payment will be paid after confirming that it is correct. You get what you pay for. When the quoted price differs by 10% from the market price, it may be a service problem. When the quoted price differs from the market price by more than 10%, it should be a material problem!

In 2014, as our EMHK performance has been increasing rapidily, our team has grown bigger and bigger. There are often salesmen in the team telling me that his customers have been cheated, and various experiences are different. So let me tell their stories one by one, hoping that these examples can provide a good reminder for your future work.In 2014, one of our salesperson’s old customers was from Africa. This black brother is usually careless. Our salesperson helps him to inspect the specifications and materials of stainless steel products. We have cooperated with him for a long time. He is very relieved. There has never been a problem. But once, we quoted an order value of 15,000 US dollars, and another company B offered him a total price of 14,500 US dollars. He didn’t tell us about the price, he directly chose Company B to cooperate. He chose Company B rashly just because our total price was more than US$500 more than Company B. Two months later, the delivery date has arrived, and company B hasn’t delivered the goods. He called company B several times and couldn’t get through. Even if he contacted company B, it just delayed the delivery. The African customer was very anxious before telling us what happened. The matter was already very clear and he was cheated. It is impossible for Company B to ship the goods. He still paid the full amount, no more than 15,000 US dollars. He felt embarrassed and embarrassed to tell us, because he only saw the price, not the service. In the past, we always served him and never lied to him. He thought that other people could also serve like this, but he was lied to. Later, we asked our company to help him contact the seller to get the payment back, but the seller didn’t answer our call at all. Customers can only admit that they are unlucky. Therefore, this matter tells us a truth is not to lose big because of a small price difference, and don’t give up the old partners who have cooperated for many years because of a small price difference. After all, people who have worked together for many years will not want to earn you a few hundred yuan more.
Do not pay 100% of the full amount, but 30% deposit, and the balance will be paid after seeing the completed photos or videos of the goods.

In 2015, we got an opportunity to build a factory in cooperation with a milk factory in Singapore. But we didn’t get an order for such a large project before the factory was built, so why do customers trust us so much to give us such a large order? Here is a story. In July 2015, we received a call that two customers from Singapore and Myanmar came to our country. On the phone, they said that they had planned to meet with another seller at the airport, but the seller suddenly sold it. Do not answer the phone or come to pick them up. Had to let us pick up and arrange the next day’s itinerary. We met in the heart of making friends and helped them arrange the next itinerary. The customer explained that the previous seller’s price was very good, much lower than what we reported, and there are still many factories that do steel pipes, pipe fittings and steel plates. Whatever conditions can be met, he promised to meet them. But I don’t know why they waited for them to come and avoided seeing them. I asked the customer to show the list of quotations from the seller, and I found that the prices are all wrong.The price of 304 is quoted at 201 again, or the thickness of the product is not marked. We don’t want to discredit any seller. After all, the customer himself values ​​the price too much and does not pursue the quality, and keeps lowering the price. In the end, the seller has no choice but to give him such a low price. Moreover, how can a seller produce everything by himself? Steel pipes, steel plates, and pipe fittings are all unlikely to be produced. Customers who value prices so much will inevitably find real manufacturers and get rid of sellers after they come to China. So I think the seller should be very worried about being thrown away by the customer after receiving the customer. So I don’t want to waste energy. Our company also met them in the heart of making friends. May be moved by our professionalism and attitude. Although the customer finally saw a lot of the factories we introduced, in the end they only signed a contract with us. Although the first order was not large, we left a deep impression on the customer through the first order. Later, we helped the two manufacturers to purchase from the construction to the internal equipment purchase. Customers said that overseas procurement is not a simple matter. First, it is difficult to find a professional and reliable company. Second, it is difficult to buy products of qualified quality and quantity. Remember, don’t just look at the price, but check the reliability of the company, and then compare it with the market price. Finally make the right choice.

In 2016-2017,in EMHK, I personally met a customer from Brazil. Unfortunately, this customer was cheated of 100,000 US dollars, which was a very large amount. The customer wants to buy the boiler tube of special steel, and the payment made by the letter of credit is consistent with the documents. But what they received was not the boiler tube they wanted. If they were actually used, it would be very dangerous. When the customer is desperate, he can only buy the boiler tube of real material again. The previous $100,000 can only be regarded as a lesson. For example, the products you purchase belong to dangerous industries, so you must do a good job of testing before shipment, product specification measurement, NDT, PMI, HYDRAULIC, etc. test passed before paying the balance. If it is the first time to cooperate with the factory, you can ask it to provide some shipping records, such as bill of lading, certificate of origin, CCPIT commercial invoice, material list, it is best to refer to some documents that have been inspected by a third party. Prove whether the seller is reliable through multiple verifications, and then discuss the price.

In 2018, we had an old customer from Vietnam. He asked us to buy bronze rods for half a year. We gave him the direct factory price and the profit was less than 5%. He was still hesitant to place an order. In the end, he cooperated with a small company, and that company’s price was 10,000 US dollars lower than our total price. We can see at a glance that their prices are brass, not bronze. What we reported to our customers was bronze, which is much more expensive than brass. But the customer still believes in the cheap price. After the customer bought it back, the customer’s end user discovered that it was brass instead of bronze, and the end user demanded compensation. Moreover, its end customers have to compensate customers for other losses, such as the cost of delays in the construction period, and other orders will not be made to customers in the future. So he suffered heavy losses.
From 2018 to the present, there are still many stories that cannot be shared one by one during this period. The above few stories hope to help you avoid detours and be more cautious in overseas purchases in the future.
